Introduction

This course is for those who are not reaching their potential, who feel they are living below part. It is to help you to extend yourself, to reach out and achieve new capabilities. Lent is not a time for restricting yourself but for throwing off restrictions and realising new liberties. We will only cut away that which restricts our growth and prevents us from doing what we know we are capable of. The very word Lent means to lengthen, or to extend, and that is what we will aim to do. Our God does not seek denial of ourselves but fulfilment he does not seek diminution but extension. Jesus says 'I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly' (John 10:10). It is said that so many look upon Christianity as restrictive when it is life-giving through the power of God. This course is to help you to look at your own aims and ways to achieve them, and to turn some of your dreams into reality and your visions into actions. Lent is the time to get into training, to get rid of what hampers us, of all that holds us back, and to move towards being the people God calls us to be. 'Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which clings so closely, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us'. (Hebrews 12:1).
