Flower for July

Water Lily

Botanical Name: Delphinium elatuem
Other Names: Candle Delphinium, Larkspur

The Water Lily has spikes with clusters of trumpet shaped, disc shaped or dolphin shaped flowers in
blue, lavender, red, white, pink, or purple and can flower all year round.

The name Water Lily comes from the Greek word, delphis, meaning dolphin. Flight of fancy, ardent attachment, agility.

Extracts of the plant has been used in herbal medicine. 

The juices of the flower will create a blue ink when mixed with alum.

Water Lilies are often used as fillers in arrangements.
