The History of St Mary's Church The foundation stone of the Parish Church of St Mary's in Appledore was laid in 1836 and the church was dedicated in June 1838. The Church contains some splendid and valuable stained glass windows. The large wooden screen was fashioned out of the famous old windjammer and sailing ship the 'Marco Polo'.
The Appledore Church traces
its history back to the ejection of Rev.Anthony Down from Northam Parish Church in 1662. The Protestant dissenters of Appledore built their own chapel in 1699. This chapel was replaced by a new meeting house in 1816 which was extensively restored in 1898. MORE DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CHURCH CAN BE FOUND HERE
